| | Activities of SESP started in 1998, when first 3 NGOs were established in mono-industrial towns of Donetsk Oblast. They provided different social and educational services to vulnerable groups of population. This sphere of activity proved to be highly in demand, viable and promising, and since February 2001 the core team of the Association has established or helped to establish 12 more NGOs and 11 credit unions as a mechanism to assist in adaptation of the population to new socio-economic conditions.
In 2002 the NGOs themselves initiated the establishment of the Association as the most acceptable and efficient structure, which could unite and develop them. The Association was officially registered in October 2002 as a non-governmental organization. Today SESP unites 21 analytical NGOs working in four regions of Ukraine, namely Donetsk, Luhansk, Zhytomir, Dnepropetrovsk.
Since its creation SESP has gained significant experience in civil society capacity building and has attained certain achievements. More then 20 projects on civil society and community development, supported by various donor organisations including local government, have been successfully implemented over the last several years.
Today SESP is a member of:
- The Donetsk Oblast Civil Society Organisations Coalition (informal union of the strongest NGOs from the region created to develop civil society in Donetsk oblast by strengthening role of local NGOs),
- the Local Economic Development Forum,
- the UN Global Compact (initiative aimed to develop a concept of social corporate responsibility and attract business to develop more stable and fair economy at the global level).
